Our favorite sound bites

Sound bites often oversimplify, to the detriment of nuanced thinking. But sometimes they distill great ideas and help spread them effectively.

Here are some good ones:
  • Ideas rule our lives — often in the form of hidden assumptions — and we cannot be free, self-determining individuals unless we consciously choose the ideas we live by.
  • Having an open mind requires us to first understand how our own minds may be closed.
  • “Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity.” Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Strength of Love, 1963.
  • If we start with a bad premise, then wherever our journey takes us is a fool’s errand.
  • To fix the world’s most pressing problems, we must celebrate the role that ideas play as the foundation of everything we think, believe, feel, and do.
  • Science by anecdote is storytelling, not science. Storytelling may illuminate the truth, but it cannot test it.
  • We are seeking a paradigm shift — proudly exalting the power of deep, clear thinking to open our minds, challenge our assumptions, and enrich our beliefs and actions.
  • “Expert,” “flexible,” “scientific,” “intellectual,” “inquisitive,” and “sophisticated” are not dirty words or insults; they are cherished compliments.
